Translations for the Spanish non-lucrative visa
The non-lucrative visa lets you live in Spain without working, on your own income or savings. You apply at the Spanish consulate where you live, and most of your documents must be apostilled and translated into Spanish.
Documents that usually need translating
- Criminal record certificate from every country you have lived in during the last five years (FBI, ACRO, RCMP…), apostilled.
- Medical certificate stating that you have no disease with serious public-health implications.
- Proof of income or savings, such as bank or pension statements.
- Marriage and birth certificates for family members applying with you.
Funds and health insurance
You must show income or savings of about four times the IPREM (the Spanish reference income) per month, plus one more IPREM for each family member, and have private health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain, without co-payments. Check the current amounts with your consulate.
Order matters
- 1. Request the criminal record and medical certificates.
- 2. Get them apostilled.
- 3. Send them to us for sworn translation, as soon as the apostilles arrive.
- 4. Attend your consulate appointment with the originals and the translations.

Frequently asked questions
Do bank statements need a sworn translation?
Many consulates ask for it. Statements can be long, so ask your bank for a one-page balance certificate: it is cheaper to translate.
Can I work on a non-lucrative visa?
No. If you plan to work remotely for foreign clients, look at the digital nomad visa instead.
