Canadian criminal record check for Spain

Spanish consulates accept only the RCMP certified criminal record check based on fingerprints, apostilled by Global Affairs Canada and translated into Spanish by a sworn translator. In most cases we can manage the whole process from Spain.

What Spain asks for

  • An RCMP certified criminal record check based on your fingerprints. Local police checks are not accepted.
  • An apostille from Global Affairs Canada. Canada joined the Hague Apostille Convention in January 2024, so consular legalisation is no longer needed.
  • A sworn translation into Spanish.

How we handle it

  • 1. We take your fingerprints and submit them to the RCMP.
  • 2. Once the certified check is issued, it is apostilled by Global Affairs Canada.
  • 3. We translate the certificate and the apostille into Spanish with a sworn translator.

Start early

RCMP processing can take several weeks, and the consulate will want a recent certificate. Tell us your appointment date and we will plan the steps around it.

How much does it cost?

Longer documents are priced per word: €0.10 for the most common languages (English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese), €0.13 for most others (Romanian, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Polish…) and €0.18 for languages with few sworn translators, always subject to the minimum shown in the table. For example, a 750-word document from English into Spanish costs €75 + VAT.

Fingerprinting, channeler and apostille fees depend on the country and the service. We quote them together with the translation, so you see one total price before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do the fingerprints in Spain?

Yes. In most cases we can take them here and handle the RCMP request; we confirm it for your case when you contact us.

I have an old RCMP check without an apostille. Can I use it?

Usually not, because Spanish authorities want a recent certificate. We can advise whether yours is still valid for your application.
