Sworn translation of divorce decrees and court rulings
For a foreign judgment to take effect in Spain (or a Spanish one abroad), it must be submitted with a translation. We translate judgments, court orders, divorce settlement agreements and claims.
When you need it
- Remarrying in Spain after a divorce abroad.
- Registering a foreign divorce with the Civil Registry or in a nationality application.
- Recognition (exequatur) of a foreign judgment by a Spanish court.
- Custody, maintenance or inheritance proceedings involving several countries.
Judgments from inside and outside the EU
Within the EU, divorce judgments are recognised without any special procedure: the judgment and the European certificate issued by the court are usually enough, although the authority may ask for a translation.
Judgments from outside the EU normally need recognition by a court (exequatur) or registration with the Civil Registry, with the judgment apostilled or legalised and a sworn translation.
Price
Judgments usually run to several pages, so they are priced per word. If you are only asked for part of it (for example, the operative part and the certificate of finality), check first: it may work out cheaper.
How much does it cost?
Price per language for a one-page document (for example, a certificate with its apostille), translated into or from Spanish, VAT not included:

Frequently asked questions
Does the whole judgment need to be translated?
Normally yes. Some authorities accept a partial translation; if that is your case, tell us which parts and we will state it in the translation.
Do you translate confidential court documents?
Yes. All our translators are bound by confidentiality and we handle your documents in accordance with our privacy policy.
What about submitting a Spanish judgment abroad?
We translate it into the language of the destination country and tell you whether it needs an apostille from the High Court of Justice (Tribunal Superior de Justicia).
