Sworn translation of powers of attorney and notarial deeds

To buy or sell a property, accept an inheritance or sign before a notary from another country, the power of attorney or deed must be translated. We work with notaries and gestorías all over Spain.

Powers of attorney granted abroad

A power of attorney signed before a foreign notary must carry an apostille (or legalisation) and, to be used in Spain, a translation into Spanish. The Spanish notary will tell you whether they accept the sworn translation or whether there is another route.

Tip: many foreign notaries can execute the power of attorney in a bilingual format. If you plan it that way, the Spanish notary may not need a translation.

Spanish documents for use abroad

Powers of attorney, property purchase or company formation deeds, notarial certificates and certified copies. We translate them into the language of the destination country; the apostille for Spanish notarial documents is issued by the Notarial Association (Colegio Notarial).

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a foreign power of attorney without a translation?

Only if the Spanish notary understands the language and accepts it, or if the power of attorney is bilingual. In most cases they ask for a sworn translation.

Can you translate the deed before I sign it?

Yes, we can translate the draft so you understand it before signing. For that purpose a non-sworn translation, which is more affordable, is enough.
